I am an unlikely and reluctant recycler. I didn’t have room for a bunch of different bins in my small house, and I definitely didn’t want to lug a bunch of dirty, bug covered bins out to the curb each week. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago when I saw a story about where our garbage goes that I finally got it. Apparently our garbage goes to an island the size of Texas in the Pacific Ocean. That is just disgusting. It was at that point that I thought ok, I have to get with the program. I began filling up those bins and lugging them to the curb.
Then, just a couple of months ago the garbage company delivered a huge blue recycling garbage can with wheels. It’s bigger than two of the regular sized cans and I actually fill that thing up every week. It’s kind of a game at this point.
So when my sister heard we would be required to use reusable shopping bags she thought that would be fine, until she saw what her options were; Black or dark green bags with large grocery store logos on the side that she was embarrassed to take into the other stores. And they were so small they didn’t fit much in them. As she told me about her idea I thought what fun, making a necessity pretty and functional. She didn’t have time to create them and I did.
If I have to pay for and carry reusable bags then I want them to be pretty and I want to be able to clean them easily. And we can. I throw them in the washing machine and they pop right back out just as lovely as when I got them. I love these bags and they make me happy when I use them. I hope you like them as much as I do.
